Product Introduction

Our Wireline Set Bridge Plug is a mechanical downhole device specifically designed for zonal isolation in oil and gas wells, capable of being set quickly and accurately using wireline (slickline or electric line) conveyance - eliminating the need for tubing workstrings and multiple trips, and reducing operational complexity compared to tubing-set or hydro-mechanical alternatives. Composed of alloy steel case-hardened slips and a robust plug mandrel, with a premium elastomer sealing element (one-piece or triple packing element configuration) and dual ratchet lock rings that securely store setting force, this tool provides a secure pressure barrier that can withstand high differential pressures up to 10,000 PSI and harsh downhole conditions up to 275°F (135°C), ensuring reliable isolation for both temporary and permanent applications. The plug is available in two configurations: a permanent drillable version with cast iron drillable components that can be easily milled out with PDC bits after use, and a retrievable version featuring a large internal pressure equalization bypass that closes during setting and opens prior to release - equalizing pressure to eliminate the risk of trapped pressure and facilitating debris cleanup before retrieval. Both versions are set using standard Baker wireline setting tools with shear-stud activation, and the retrievable version can be recovered via tubing, coiled tubing, or sand line after pressure equalization. The compact design allows easy running into wells with high dogleg severity (DLS), adapting to complex wellbore conditions including deviated and horizontal sections, and the plug can be set in most casing types and grades - including unsupported or uncemented casing - to contain pressure while working on wellhead equipment. Whether you need to isolate a lower well zone during upper section testing, cementing, stimulation, production, or injection, or to permanently abandon a well, our wireline set bridge plug delivers consistent performance, preventing fluids or gas from migrating between zones and ensuring operational safety and efficiency with minimal rig time and cost.

Product Features

1. Efficient Wireline Deployment with Baker Tool Compatibility

Designed for direct setting with standard wireline tools - including Baker wireline setting assemblies (E-4/E-5 and compatible models) via slickline or electric line - enabling rapid deployment without the need for tubing workstrings, saving rig time and reducing labor costs. The compact design allows easy running into wells with high dogleg severity (DLS), adapting to deviated and horizontal wellbore conditions. The shear-stud anti-preset design prevents accidental setting during deployment, ensuring reliable depth placement. Optional hydraulic setting tool is available for tubing deployment when wireline access is unavailable.

2. Superior Pressure Sealing with Dual Ratchet Lock Rings

Equipped with a one-piece or triple packing element system (depending on model and pressure rating) that ensures a tight, leak-proof seal, capable of withstanding pressure ratings up to 10,000 PSI (69 MPa) and temperature ratings up to 275°F (135°C). The dual ratchet lock rings securely store and maintain setting force, preserving seal integrity even during pressure reversals and dynamic downhole conditions. The packing element is available in premium elastomer formulations matched to wellbore fluid and temperature conditions.

3. Durable Construction with Drillable Cast Iron Components

Crafted from alloy steel for the slips and mandrel - providing exceptional durability, corrosion resistance, and resistance to downhole debris - with case-hardened slip teeth for secure casing engagement. For permanent applications, the cast iron makeup (drillable components) allows for easy drilling out with PDC bits when isolation is no longer required, minimizing casing damage and operational hassle compared to steel plugs. The combination of alloy steel load-bearing components and cast iron drillable sections provides both structural strength and efficient post-use removal.

4. Permanent or Retrievable Configurations

Available in two configurations to match operational requirements: the permanent drillable version for long-term isolation and well abandonment, and the retrievable version for temporary isolation where plug recovery is desired. The retrievable version features a large internal bypass that closes during setting and opens prior to release, equalizing pressure above and below the plug to eliminate the risk of trapped pressure pushing the workstring out of the well, and facilitating debris cleanup before retrieval - saving additional trip costs. Retrieval is via tubing, coiled tubing, or sand line with right-hand or left-hand rotation release configurations.

5. Versatile Application Range

Suitable for both temporary and permanent zonal isolation, including well testing, fracturing, acidizing, cementing, workover operations, water plugging in mature fields, and well abandonment. It can be set in most casing types and grades - including unsupported or uncemented casing - and is compatible with various well sizes from 3½" to 5½". Particularly effective for isolating water surge layers, leak layers, gas layers, and thin interlayers where traditional cement plugs are less effective or impractical.

6. User-Friendly Operation

Simple setting and release mechanisms ensure ease of use, reducing the need for specialized training. The tool is wireline-ready with shear studs compatible with standard Baker wireline setting tools for seamless integration into existing operations. Setting and retrieval procedures are straightforward and well-documented, and the plug is compatible with standard wireline pressure control equipment (lubricators, grease injectors) for safe operations under live well conditions.

Working Principle

The Wireline Set Bridge Plug operates in four phases - wireline deployment, setting, isolation, and retrieval or drill-out:

Phase 1: Wireline Deployment

The plug is connected to a standard Baker wireline setting tool (E-4/E-5 or compatible) and run into the wellbore on slickline or electric line through standard wireline pressure control equipment (lubricator, grease injector). The compact profile and shear-stud anti-preset design allow safe passage through high dogleg severity (DLS) sections, deviated wellbores, and wellbore restrictions without premature activation. The plug is positioned at target depth.

Phase 2: Setting

Once on depth, the wireline setting tool is activated - typically by applying tension or an electrical firing mechanism - which generates the setting force. The setting force shears the anti-preset studs and drives the slips outward to anchor against the casing wall, while simultaneously compressing the packing element to form a pressure-tight seal. The dual ratchet lock rings engage and mechanically store the setting force, maintaining the seal even after the setting tool force is removed. The setting tool then releases from the plug and is retrieved to surface via wireline.

Phase 3: Isolation

Once set, the alloy steel case-hardened slips and compressed packing element create a reliable pressure barrier containing differential pressure up to 10,000 PSI from either direction. The dual ratchet lock rings maintain setting force during pressure fluctuations and reversals. The plug remains in place for the intended operation - well testing, stimulation, cementing, workover, or abandonment. For retrievable models, the internal bypass remains closed during the isolation period, maintaining the pressure seal.

Phase 4: Retrieval or Drill-Out

For retrievable models: a retrieval tool is run on tubing, coiled tubing, or sand line and engages the plug. The retrieval operation opens the internal bypass to equalize pressure above and below the plug, then applies rotation (right-hand or left-hand depending on configuration) and tension to release the slips and retrieve the plug intact. For permanent models: when isolation is no longer required, the cast iron drillable components are milled out using PDC bits on coiled tubing or drill pipe, producing small, easily circulated debris with minimal casing damage.

Application Scenarios

1. Temporary Zonal Isolation for Testing and Stimulation

Temporary isolation of lower well zones during upper section testing, acidizing, fracturing, or cementing operations. The rapid wireline deployment minimizes rig time between stages, and the retrievable configuration allows the plug to be recovered and reused after the operation - eliminating drill-out costs for temporary applications.

2. Permanent Well Abandonment (P&A)

Permanent isolation for well abandonment projects, ensuring long-term well integrity and environmental protection. The cast iron drillable version provides a durable, cost-effective permanent barrier rated to 10,000 PSI, validated to API 11D1 V3 and ISO 14310 standards meeting regulatory P&A requirements.

3. Workover and Water Plugging Operations

Workover operations including water plugging in the middle and later stages of oilfield development, where precise zonal isolation is critical to control water production and increase oil recovery. The wireline deployment method is particularly efficient for workover rigs with wireline capability, reducing cost compared to tubing-set plugs.

4. Isolation of Problematic Zones

Isolation of water surge layers, leak layers, gas layers, and thin interlayers where traditional cement plugs are less effective due to poor cement placement, short isolation intervals, or thief zones. The mechanical packing element provides a positive seal that cement cannot achieve in these challenging formations.

5. Shallow and Deep Wells with Unsupported Casing

Suitable for both shallow and deep well applications, capable of being set in unsupported or uncemented casing to contain pressure while working on wellhead equipment - including wellhead repair, BOP maintenance, and Christmas tree replacement. The wireline method allows setting without a tubing workstring, making it ideal for wells where tubing is not available or practical.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between wireline set and hydro-mechanical set bridge plugs?

A: A wireline set bridge plug is deployed and set using a wireline (slickline or e-line) with a dedicated wireline setting tool - it is fast, does not require a tubing workstring, and is ideal for wells where wireline access is available. A hydro-mechanical set bridge plug is run on tubing and set by applying tubing pressure plus mechanical tension - it does not require wireline equipment, making it suitable for wells where wireline is unavailable or cost-prohibitive, and for highly deviated wells where wireline setting may be less reliable. Both are available in permanent (drillable) and retrievable configurations.

Q: Can the wireline set bridge plug be retrieved after setting?

A: It depends on the configuration. The retrievable version can be recovered intact via tubing, coiled tubing, or sand line after pressure equalization through the internal bypass - with right-hand or left-hand rotation release. The permanent (drillable) version cannot be retrieved intact and is milled out with PDC bits when no longer needed. Both configurations are available - specify your requirement when ordering.

Q: What wireline setting tools are compatible?

A: The plug is compatible with standard Baker wireline setting tools including E-4 and E-5 series assemblies, and equivalent tools from other manufacturers. The shear-stud activation is matched to the setting tool's force output. We provide setting tool compatibility information and running procedures for each plug size. Contact us if you use a different setting tool brand for compatibility verification.

Q: What is the delivery time, MOQ, and payment method?

A: The MOQ is 1 piece for standard models. Standard products ship within 7–15 working days after deposit; custom sizes or configurations require 15–30 working days. We ship from Shanghai or Ningbo port. Payment terms include T/T (30% deposit, 70% before shipment), L/C at sight, and Western Union. Sample evaluation units available.

Q: What is the maximum dogleg severity (DLS) the plug can pass through?

A: The compact design allows running through high dogleg severity wellbores. The exact DLS limit depends on plug size, casing size, and wireline cable stiffness - typical maximum is 10°–15° per 100 ft for standard sizes. Contact our engineering team with your wellbore survey data for a specific DLS assessment and running procedure recommendation.

Q: Can it be set in uncemented or unsupported casing?

A: Yes, the wireline set bridge plug can be set in unsupported or uncemented casing, provided the casing grade and wall thickness can withstand the slip loading and differential pressure. The case-hardened slips provide secure anchoring, but casing deformation or collapse is possible in thin-wall or low-grade casing under high pressure. We recommend verifying casing integrity before setting in unsupported sections.
