Perenco Congo revealed a big investment scheme with the construction of a new offshore platform, Kombi 2. Kombi 2 is constructed in the Dutch shipyard of Nieuwdorp by Perenco's sister company Dixstone and provides integrated solutions to the oil and gas industry.
To mark the Perenco investment, the Company invited Minister of Hydrocarbons, Mr. Bruno Jean Richard Itoua, to tour the yard and see work undertaken on the Kombi 2 platform. To mark the dignity of the Ministerial visit, partners SNPC, AOGC, and Petrocongo and Perenco Congo celebrated their dedication to responsible, sustainable, value-generating development for the Congolese petroleum industry.
About Kombi 2
This offshore plant to be constructed on the Kombi-Likalala-Libondo II (KLL II) license will enable to:
Produce around 7 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMcfg/d), lowering carbon emissions and utilizing the resource more efficiently;
Generate electricity needed by employing two gas-fired turbines driven by a 33 kV electrical hub;
Enhance surface processing and release further 10 million barrels of reserves by optimizing the utilization of existing wells
Install a new well-bay module for new wells with a 10 million more barrels capacity.
Kombi 2 construction and subsequent drilling phases will be over $200 million. The platform will leave the Netherlands in October 2025 and begin production in Pointe-Noire early 2026.
"This project is a proof of a long, stable relationship with confidence," declared Armel Simondin, CEO of Perenco. "More than two decades, Perenco worked alongside the Republic of Congo to develop the assets of the country and its infrastructures, the local know-how and energy independence.".
"Kombi 2 is fully in line with our performance, safe operation, and respect for the environment commitment," said Stéphane BARC, Perenco Congo's Managing Director. "This new success illustrates our ability to combine technical innovation, respect for the highest standards, and a real contribution to the development of the country."
The new Ikalou II and Likouala II extension permits, for an initial 20-year term, reinforces Perenco's grip in Congo, and will be included in a whole global investment plan of about $900 million, including work-over programs, development drilling and the installation of state-of-the-art infrastructure.
In pursuing this long-term vision, Perenco Congo reaffirms its commitment to assist in developing the Congolese petroleum industry, and to contribute to supporting the Congolese authorities in their objective of achieving national production of 500,000 boed in 2030.
