Aker BP is taking a giant leap in its digital transformation with high-scale roll-out of Cognite Atlas AI™ and strengthening its strategic alliance with Cognite to push an "AI-first" approach to drive exploration and production.
The project puts Aker BP at the forefront of industrial AI adoption within the oil and gas sector, with agent-based AI solutions to automate operations, reduce spend, and improve decision-making across operations.
"Our joint work with Cognite on Atlas AI is a milestone in our digitalization strategy," Aker BP Chief Digital Officer Paula Doyle stated. "This partnership is evidence of our intent to drive sustained AI-first, data-first thinking, leveraging agentic AI to further enhance efficiency, enhance decision-making, and optimize operations end-to-end."
Cognite Atlas AI offers low-code workbench and pre-trained agents with which end-users can create bespoke industrial AI applications, all supported by Cognite Data Fusion ®. Aker BP's initial use cases are document automation, proactive barrier management, and equipment registration-Aker BP projects that will free up thousands of hours of engineering. Predictive maintenance, production chemistry optimisation, and use of AI agents for root cause analysis (RCA) are also being built by the company, that have cut engineering time in excess of 70%.
What we actually needed was contextualized intelligence," stated Tor Arne Amdal, Aker BP's Senior Reliability Engineer. "Having data is not sufficient-you need to have the right data, in the right context, at the right time. Cognite made that possible, and it is transforming the way we conduct RCA workflows.".
Cognite executives noted that the partnership highlights Aker BP's leadership in integrating AI into upstream operations. "By merging Aker BP's deep industry expertise with Cognite's Atlas AI, we're equipping their workforce with the tools to scale AI across the business and fundamentally reshape operations," said Francois Laborie, EVP, Strategic Projects at Cognite.
Aker BP and Cognite will illustrate more insight into their AI efforts at Cognite's Industrial AI and Data Conference, Impact 2025.
