TGS Launches Dawson Phase III 3D Seismic Survey In Western Canada

Leave a message

TGS, a global leader in energy data and intelligence, has announced the launch of its Dawson Phase III 3D multi-client seismic survey in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. Covering 141 square kilometers, the new survey will be combined with 121 square kilometers from the previous Dawson Phase II 3D survey.

Field data collection for the project has been completed, with Fast Track data expected in the first quarter of 2025 and the final data set slated for delivery in the second quarter of 2025. The survey employs advanced imaging techniques, such as multi-survey data merging, harmonic noise reduction for slip sweep acquisition, and OVT 5D interpretation, all of which contribute to highly accurate subsurface imaging and valuable insights, particularly for operators working in the Montney Formation.

Kristian Johansen, CEO of TGS, highlighted the significance of the survey, stating, "The Dawson Phase III 3D survey represents an important milestone, being our first new multi-client seismic project in British Columbia since 2019. By applying cutting-edge seismic imaging technologies and working closely with First Nations communities to minimize environmental impacts, we remain dedicated to providing top-tier data that facilitates informed decision-making in one of Canada's most active oil and gas formations."

The Dawson Phase III survey, which is supported by industry funding, will be integrated with existing TGS data to offer an expanded, more comprehensive dataset for better subsurface understanding. The project also includes data from 291 wells and 191 LAS logs, further enhancing the dataset and providing valuable insights for operators in the Montney Formation.
