First Oil Achieved From Mero-4 Field in Santos Basin, Offshore Brazil

Leave a message

Oil production has started from the fourth development phase of the Mero field in the pre-salt of the Santos basin, offshore Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Petrobras operates the field (38.6%) with TotalEnergies and Shell Brasil holding 19.3% working interest each.
Initiated in August 2021, this new project called "Mero-4" will connect back 12 wells to the new Alexandre de Gusmão FPSO (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading) unit, with a production capacity of 180,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd). The project has been designed with the objective to minimize greenhouse gas emissions, with reinjection of the associated gas into the reservoir and no routine flaring.
This startup brings Mero's total production capacity to 770,000 bpd in five FPSOs.
The start-up of Mero-4 completes the development of this world-class field -- four FPSOs started up in three years -- and launches a long-term production phase with robust free cash flow," stated Nicolas Terraz, President E&P of TotalEnergies. "It is a great achievement for the Libra consortium and a major milestone for TotalEnergies in Brazil, a core growth country for our company."
