On January 21, 2025, CNOOC announced the commencement of production at the Dongfang 29-1 Gas Field Development Project, located in the Yinggehai Basin with an average water depth of 68 meters.
The project incorporates a newly constructed, unmanned wellhead platform and a submarine pipeline. Six development wells are planned, with the facility expected to achieve a peak output of 38 million cubic feet of natural gas per day in 2025.
Designed for efficiency, the unmanned wellhead platform features an optimized layout, maximizing space utilization while minimizing project costs. Gas extracted from the field will be transported via submarine pipelines to existing Dongfang gas field facilities for processing.
CNOOC has focused on harnessing the resource potential of the Yinggehai-Qiongdongnan Basin by leveraging existing infrastructure to reduce costs and enhance operational efficiency. The commissioning of Dongfang 29-1 will significantly boost production capacity across the Dongfang gas fields.
The offshore gas fields operated by CNOOC around Hainan Island are expected to continue supplying clean, reliable, and stable energy to the region. CNOOC Limited holds full ownership and serves as the operator of this project.
